Sunny Corner Wind Farm shares strong momentum on Near Neighbour Program as February deadline approaches

Someva Renewables and Mainstream Renewable Power, the renewable energy companies investigating a wind farm at Sunny Corner State Forest, have confirmed the project team is in active discussions with nearly two thirds (63 per cent) of eligible near neighbours in the Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program.

The growing community interest comes as the 28 February 2026 deadline for participation in the proposed wind farm’s Near Neighbour Program approaches.

The Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program is open to eligible landowners in Sunny Corner, Dark Corner, Yetholme and Meadow Flat, and rural properties within 2.5km of a proposed wind turbine. It is designed to share benefits with landowners living closest to proposed wind turbines with up to $100 million available in cash payments to be shared over the project’s projected 32-year life. For example, someone living about 2km from a turbine with a moderate view of the wind farm could receive around $9,500 a year each year for 32 years ($304,000).

Eligible landowners can also now choose between annual cash payments across the 32-year life of the wind farm or an Accelerated Payment option that delivers the same value over 15-years. Payments would commence once construction begins, if the proposed wind farm is approved. The project team will be in the community every week until the 28 February, meeting with neighbours and answering questions.

Jamie Chivers, Managing Director of Someva Renewables, said the conversations to date have been constructive, and he encouraged anyone who may be eligible to get in touch with the project team before the Program closes.

“It’s been great to connect with the majority of the proposed project’s near neighbours and talk through how the Near Neighbour Program works, including the flexibility offered by the Accelerated Payment option. We’ve had some really positive and thoughtful conversations and we’ve been buoyed by the strong community interest in the Near Neighbour Program. Our focus is on making sure people understand how the Program could provide long-term or more immediate financial benefits and feel confident choosing the option that best suits their circumstances,” said Mr Chivers.

“The proposed Sunny Corner Wind Farm’s Near Neighbour Program is designed to share substantial, regular financial benefits with landowners closest to the project, in a way that suits them. By providing a reliable new income stream over many years, it can support local families and deliver lasting financial benefits for neighbours and the wider region.”

“If you may be a near neighbour of the proposed wind farm, or know someone who is, we encourage you to get in contact. We want every eligible neighbour to have the opportunity to understand the Program and share in the benefits from the proposed wind farm,” said Mr Chivers.

To participate in the Sunny Corner Wind Farm Near Neighbour Program, eligible neighbours need to sign a Neighbour Benefits Sharing Deed by 5pm on 28 February 2026.
